Recently I’ve realized my love of simple style. I knew I always liked the idea of simplicity, but now I’m starting to apply it to my wardrobe. I’m trying to fill my closet with things I love, that are well made, and really timeless. I’ve slowly gathered some basic items that can be used in a variety of ways and make outfit styling a lot easier.
Here are my 10 Closet Staples:
1. A Well Fitting Pair of Jeans
This might be obvious, but I think it’s so important to find jeans that fit perfectly. I spent too much of my life wearing jeans that just didn’t feel good. If you’ve followed me for a while, I’m sure you’ve heard me rave about these H&M jeans. They fit like a glove. I just ordered this pair and I can’t wait!
2. Black Jeans
When my last favorite pair of black jeans gave up on me, I quickly realized how essential they are to my wardrobe! They’re great for going out or for making an outfit look more sleek. These are also from…you guessed it…H&M.
3. White Sneakers
I got these light grey Keds back in Fall and I am obsessed! They’re so comfy and go with everything I own (well almost anyway).
Since I wear my keds so much, I’m also looking into getting some Bangs shoes, a company that began here in Asheville!
4. White Tee
Basic tees are so easy to throw on and style. Just throw on a neck scarf, comfy sweater, or a statement necklace and you’re good to go! I’m currently eyeing this Divided Tee.
5. Striped Tee
Is it just me or does a striped shirt make everything look better? It’s a classic look to me. I found mine at Target a couple years ago, but found a similar one here.
6. Jean Jacket
I don’t know how I ever lived without a jean jacket. I always wanted one, but just couldn’t find the right one. They always felt so tight and rigid. That’s when I discovered an oversized jean jacket at a local flea market and fell in LOVE. It gives me the structure I need for an outfit whether it’s with a girly dress or all black. If you can’t find a vintage one near you, I suggest searching Etsy or checking out Windsor.
7. Booties
If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve see these cute new shoes from DSW! I’ve quickly realized how much ankle boots have become a part of my wardrobe. They can be dressed up or down and always make an outfit look put together.
8. Chambray Shirt
Similar to the jean jacket, this button down adds nice structure to an outfit. I love that it can work as a shirt itself or as a jacket over a t-shirt or dress. I’ve always found these at Target or American Eagle.
9. Neutral, Comfy Sweater
This type of sweater is the “just in case I get cold” sweater. It’s easy to throw on over anything and always look good. I couldn’t find my current one from Forever 21, but I found a similar one at American Eagle and it looks just as cozy.
10. Little Black Dress
If I’m being honest, I probably have 5 “little black dresses” in my wardrobe. I can’t help it…black is always flattering! But my favorite is one I bought last year at Target in this style. Here are two similar ones from American Eagle and H&M.
Thanks so much for reading! Let me know if you’d like to see these items put together to make various outfits. I’d love to share! As always, leave any of your closet staples below.
